Free HSN Code Finder — Search HSN and SAC Codes with GST Rates

HSN codes are 6 to 8-digit numbers that classify goods for tax and customs purposes under the Harmonized System of Nomenclature. Since April 2021, every GST-registered business in India above the prescribed turnover threshold must print HSN or SAC codes on invoices and report them in GSTR-1. This finder covers HSN codes for goods and SAC codes for services, with the applicable GST rate shown beside each result. Use it to verify codes for invoicing, e-way bills, import documentation, and export shipping.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an HSN code and why is it mandatory?

An HSN code is a Harmonized System of Nomenclature number used to classify goods for taxation and trade. It is mandatory on GST invoices in India since April 2021 for businesses above the prescribed turnover thresholds. The HSN system is maintained by the World Customs Organization and used by more than 200 countries.

How many digits of HSN code do I need on my invoice?

It depends on annual turnover. Businesses with turnover up to ₹5 crore must use 4-digit HSN codes on B2B invoices, while those above ₹5 crore must use 6 digits on all invoices. Imports and exports always require the full 8-digit code.

What is the difference between HSN and SAC codes?

HSN codes classify goods, while SAC codes classify services. Both are used under GST in India. SAC codes always start with the digits 99, followed by four more digits identifying the specific service category.

What is UQC in GST?

UQC stands for Unit Quantity Code, a standard abbreviation used to denote the unit of measure on a GST invoice. Examples include NOS for numbers, KGS for kilograms, MTR for metres, and LTR for litres. The CBIC publishes the full list of accepted UQCs.

Are HSN codes the same in all countries?

The first 6 digits of an HSN code are standardised globally under the WCO Harmonized System and identical across countries. Individual countries extend the code beyond 6 digits for their own tariff and statistical needs. India uses 8 digits, while the United States and European Union use 10.

How do I find the HSN code for my product?

Type the product name or partial code in the search box above and matching results appear instantly. For accuracy on imports, exports, or large-value invoices, verify the final code against the CBIC tariff or with a customs broker. The chapter and section shown alongside each result help confirm the correct classification.
